Depending on your luck, the time involved may vary from 30 minutes to 3 hours at DAS each time you go in. On average to renew a tourist visa you will need to go to the office 2 times. 1 time to get the requirements, and directions on where to pay for the extention, and the 2nd time when you go back to the office with the receipt and all the required docs, photos, etc.

To renew a tourist visa for 30 days, you need to visit the office and ask for: Requisitos Para Renovar la Visa Turista and they will give you a tiny peice of paper telling you what is required, which basically include a few things:

BASIC REQUIREMENST TO RENEW COLOMBIA TOURIST VISA

1) you will need photos taken, just get the back ground color correct, as well as the size. be sure to follow there directions as these specifications have changed in the past.
2) you will need to deposit aproximately 70,000 pesos in a bank account, which is not in the DAS office. DAS officials will give you this information when you go in.
3) a plane, printout electronic travel itenerary, or bus ticket which shows your departure time.

** The bank which you must pay changes, and only specific branches handle these payments for DAS fees, so be sure you go into the DAS office first to verify the location and the account number you need to pay to as well.

DONT GO IN LATE IT CAN GET UGLY AND THEY CAN TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY IMMEDIATELY. Of course this depends on your luck and who you happen to be dealing with at the DAS office. If you have a good story it may help, again it depends on who you get when you are there, and if they are having a good day. SO, dont mess up your stay renew your visa. You can stay up to 180 days a year on a tourist visa, but look at your stamp when you enter so you know if they gave you 30 or 60 days to start with.
